Prof. N. Subhadra Devi

Dr. N. Subhadra Devi was born in Secunderabad. Her exceptional performance in school and college education resulted in her securing first rank in the SSLC and Intermediate examinations in the then NIZAM State. The Nawab of Nizam deputed her on a state scholarship to study medicine from Madras Medical College.

She was a recipient of Johnston Medal among other prizes during her under graduation. She was also awarded “Blue Ribbon”. She was the best outgoing student of her batch. She was then sent by the Nawab to UK for higher studies. She obtained her MRCOG and DCh from London. IN 1949 she was posted at Stanley Medical College Hospital at Madras after her return from London. In 1954 she was posted as a senior professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Visakhapatnam. During that tenure, she had to take up and complete MD from Madras Medical College as the degrees from Royal Colleges were de-recognized by the Government of India. As a post graduate student at Madras Medical College, she was adored and respected by students and faculty for her exceptional knowledge of the subject and for her dedication to duty. After taking her degree she was posted back to Visakhapatnam as a professor. She later became principal for the same college and served there for 20 years. She later became a principal of Guntur Medical College. She was a respected teacher, an astute clinician, and a deft surgeon. She was duty bound and instilled discipline in the department. Her knowledge of the subject is a legend even today. She was a musician and linguist. She authored books in Telugu. She presented and published many academic papers. She was a member of academic councils and syndicates of Andhra University and Nagarjuna University. After leading a life full of glory, achievement, and dedication, she died in the year 1983 in USA.

Prof. R. Satyabhama Reddy

Dr. Satyabhama Reddy was born on November 9, 1920 at Bangalore. She is a grand daughter of Dr. Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy. She graduated from Andhra Medical College in 1945. She received many awards for meritorious academic records and is the best outgoing student of AMC 1945. She was also a recipient of “Viceroy Gold Medal” for being the best lady medical student in the country. She obtained MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1950 and opted for the services of the Andhra state. When Madras state was divided, and a separate Andhra State was formed in 1953 she was transferred to Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam. She started the DNB program at Vijaya Hospital, Chennai with great success and an overwhelming response. She brought several laurels to the college as an exceptionally meritorious student. She rendered monumental services as a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as a skilled doctor and as a fine administrator. She was a recipient of several awards such as Swami Nathan Prize, Anderson prize, Prize in jurisprudence.

Prof G. Ramakrishnan Raju

Dr. G. Rama Krishnam Raju is a former Professor & Head of the Department, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Andhra Medical College, former Superintendent, King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam and director of Krishna Hospital.

He was born at Bhimavaram, West Godavari district on July 5, 1931. His father Dr. G. Subba Raju was the first batch student at Andhra Medical College. Dr GRK Raju, his brother, and both of his sons are alumni of Andhra Medical College. He worked as Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, Guntur Medical College and Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam and Superintendent of King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam. He has authored “TEXTBOOK OF OBSTETRICS” which has gone through three editions and is popular among undergraduate and post graduate students. He was the recipient of BEST TEACHERS AWARD, among medical teachers of A.P. State Government for the year 1988 - 89.He is the founder member of Obstetrics and Gynecological Society of East Andhra Pradesh and was the longest serving president of the same society for 12 years from 1977 to 1989. He was also founder member of the Guntur Obstetrics Society and a member of Indian College of Obstetrics and Gynecology of FOGSI and FIMSA, has contributed chapters for FOGSI publications. After superannuation in 1989 he started Krishna Hospital which takes care of high-risk cases of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Krishna I.V.F. Centre. These institutes have been recognized by the national board of examinations and FOGSI as training centres.

Dr. R. Sasi Prabha MD DGO

Dr. R. Sasi Prabha was born on August 11, 1946 in Srikakulam. She was always a topper in academics right from her school days which she had in Kakinada and Cuddapha. She obtained MBBS from Andhra Medical College as the best going student bagging four medals. She obtained Diploma and Masters in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Andhra Medical College standing as a topper in DGO receiving another medal then. She worked as Professor, Head of the Department, and Principal of Andhra Medical College and Director of Medical Education in combined Andhra Pradesh. She was also a member of Executive Council of NTRUHS, Professor Emeritus of NTRUHS and Senate member of Andhra University. She is always an active member of FOGSI which she served in various capacities. She has been conducting free gynecological camps every week in Gambiram village from September 2004, and is also associated with the activities of Prema Samajam which is an NGO in Visakhapatnam. She is awarded “VISAKHA RATNA” by Rotary Club Ladies wing, Visakhapatnam. She is fondly loved by all her students, faculty, and patients for her sweet and gentle demeanor.
